Random Text: First 5 is part of a Statewide effort to create a seamless system of integrated and comprehensive programs and services by establishing community-based programs to provide parental education and family support services relevant to effective childhood development; encouraging pregnant women and parents of young children to quit smoking; and educating the public on the importance and the benefits of nurturing, health care, family support, and child care. First 5 is a nine-member commission comprised of a member of the Board of Supervisors, the Directors of the Department of Public Health and the Department of Employment and Social Services, and six members of the public appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
